Lori’s passion for balancing the scales of justice is foreshadowed by the lovingly strict and spiritual rearing of her parents, Thomas and Ruth Butts. In the Butts home, values of faith, integrity, responsibility, compassion and empathy were touchstone. Perseverance is Lori’s greatest asset; empathy and a healthy sense of humor are not far behind. The words found in the seal of her alma mater, Fayetteville State University, are Ms. Butts’s mantra: “Res, non verba,” meaning deeds, not words. Lori A. Butts joined Eric O. Moody & Associates in September, 2012. Ms. Butts is a native of the city of Chesapeake, VA. She graduated with honors from Deep Creek High School in 1987. Ms. Butts earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Sociology from Fayetteville State University in 1993 and later received her Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2000. She was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2001. Prior to joining Moody & Associates, Ms. Butts worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the city of Suffolk, Virginia for about 10 years.

As an avid defender of justice, she gained invaluable experience litigating a broad range of criminal matters, from simple misdemeanors to serious and violent felonies, in local and appellate courts. Ms. Butts is an active member in good standing in the Virginia State Bar. Ms. Butts’s most notable achievement is being the happy mother of two daughters. When she’s not busy fighting for her clients in and out of court, Lori makes time for singing, writing, musical theatre, sports, mentoring girls and young women, public speaking, volunteering as a companion to elderly persons and in other capacities at her local church. She has graced the stage as an opera soloist, actor/singer, worship leader, and keynote speaker in Virginia and North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
